ABOUT ABOUT

The Friends of Wildwood invite you to join them on their third “Off the Beaten Path” bus trip. We’ll take a comfortable, chartered mini-bus to explore three stops along the Susquehanna in York and Lancaster counties.

Stop 1: The Zimmerman Center for Heritage is the headquarters of Susquehanna National Heritage Area. Depending on weather and availability, activities may include

  1. Tour of the historic house that now serves as a museum for Susquehanna River Art and Susquehannock Indian artifacts.
  2. Take a boat ride on the Chief Uncas to learn the history of the historic vessel (built in 1912), stories of the special landscape, and lasting legacy of the Susquehanna River!*
  3. A short, guided hike into Native Lands County Park to learn how the Susquehannock Indians lived along the river. Native Lands Park is the site of the Susquehannock peoples’ last community.

Stop 2: Columbia. This small town has lots to offer. We’ll stop here for lunch on your own and have some time to explore. Columbia has museums, antique shops and lovely river views.

Stop 3: Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education. We’ll enjoy a private 75-90 minute tour of their riparian buffer and agroforestry area to learn about their land restoration efforts. For more information visit https://bit.ly/3Iyr1GF

All participants will receive a specially curated gift bag to provide comfort during the trip. You’ll be able to purchase lunch in Columbia. Feel free to bring any other snacks you’d like for the day. Register by Monday, June 10.

*The boat ride availability is dependent on both completed maintenance and weather. The Friends of Wildwood will cover the cost of this aspect of the trip.
