ABOUT ABOUT

A day long workshop of rustic design and building fun will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 9:00am – 4:00pm as a special offering during the opening festivities for Wildwood Park’s Art In The Wild 2014.

Daniel Mack will guide you through the processes of designing and building with branches, saplings and other natural materials.  He will introduce ways of thinking about designs which honor both the artists and materials.  He teaches a variety of techniques for joining natural materials together with simple tools.  This is a workshop for both the Playful and the Practical, young and old.

You will build a 12” high “trophy” chair which has all the mortise and tenon joints and design challenges of larger scale furniture.  And for those who want to explore other design options, there will be a supply of bark and driftwood and other materials to shape into rattles, wands, talking sticks, walking sticks, utensils, jewelry and other forms of decoration and adornment.

Dan Mack is an artist, teacher and author of numerous books on rustic topics and traditions including Making Rustic Furniture, The Rustic Furniture Companion, and Log Cabin Living.  Dan will also serves as the Art In The Wild 2014 judge for the second year in addition to presenting a free and open to the public lecture on Rustic Traditions prior to the 2014 event opening.

Advanced registration is required for participation in the Working Rustic workshop.  A registration fee of $50 per person is necessary to sign up for the workshop.
